Attorney Profile – Torsten Bassell
Torsten Bassell is a litigation and trial attorney, who also handles the appellate aspect of the firm. Torsten Bassell’s practice is primarily concentrated on litigating and trying cases involving personal injury and insurance bad faith. In litigating the foregoing types of cases on behalf of his clients, Torsten Bassell has achieved notable jury verdicts and settlements. In 2011, the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles recognized Torsten Bassell as a Trial Lawyer of the Year Nominee. That same year, the City of Lancaster awarded Torsten Bassell a commendation for his excellence in trial advocacy for consumer rights. In 2012 and 2013, Torsten Bassell was honored as a Superlawyers Rising Star (top 2.5% of lawyers in California). In 2014, Torsten Bassell was elevated to the highly prestigious Superlawyers list despite still being under 40.
Additionally, on two separate occasions, Torsten Bassell’s jury verdicts were singled out by the Recorder’s edition of the Top 100 Million Dollar Verdicts in California. One of those jury verdicts included a 2014 verdict, which was the largest personal injury judgment in California according to data collected by VerdictSearch® and from California courts. As for the impact of the verdict nationally, the National Law Journal recognized it as one of the top 100 largest verdicts in the entire county in 2014.
Since those publications came out, Torsten Bassell was also recognized as a finalist for the CAALA Trial Lawyer of the Year Award in 2015. Additionally, that same year, the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) selected Torsten Bassell and his partner, Nicole Lari-Joni, as finalists for the CAOC Street Fighter of the Year Award.
However, these accomplishments and recognition only serve to highlight the stories behind the people whom Lari-Joni & Bassell represent, as well as the juries who empathized with their situations. The firm has been able to represent truly remarkable people, whose enduring spirits have given them the fortitude to push through the worst of situations until their stories could be heard by the most caring of human beings. The past few years have instilled Lari-Joni & Bassell with an unshakeable belief that the jury system is the most reliable place to find justice for the injured and helpless. Without juries, the insurance companies and their lobbyists would dictate the value of a human being and their suffering. Luckily, our forefathers knew better than to give that kind of power to corporate interests.
