In 2015, ALM’s the Recorder once again published its annual review of the top million dollar verdicts in California for the previous year. In the 2015 issue,Lari-Joni & Bassell, LLP, was identified for achieving one of the biggest personal injury verdicts of 2014 in California.

In 2011, the Santa Barbara News Press recognized the trial team of Nicole Lari-Joni and Torsten Bassell. The team took on a personal injury case against Farmers Insurance, which resulted in a significant jury verdict for a young, hard-working woman of the Santa Barbara area. Although the accident giving rise to the case originally occurred in 2006, the litigation ensued until the case went to trial in July 2011. Luckily, Nicole Lari-Joni and Torsten Bassell encountered a caring, local jury, which saw the plight of their unfortunate client and rendered a fair and just verdict to compensate her for her losses. Regrettably, as is so often the case, the insurance company filed an appeal immediately after the jury verdict. Nevertheless, Torsten Bassell and Nicole Lari-Joni represented their client throughout the appeal process and fought against multiple law firms, including a major appellate stalwart, Horvitz & Levy. In November 2013, the efforts of Lari-Joni & Bassell paid off when the Court of Appeal affirmed the jury verdict and awarded almost $1,000,000.00 in interest due to the delay imposed by the defense’s appeal. It was a long and difficult journey, but the firm was able to fight until its client saw justice.
